The next major version of Daleks! will really be two games in one - the
well-known and "classic" version and a new (and "cruddy"?) version of my own
diabolical design.
For the amusement of all, and to offend the purists, I'm sharing the
tentative design details. This update is very much on hold -
players are advised not to hold their breaths until development is
complete as it would surely be fatal. Here are the
additions under consideration:
- Black Daleks
These models have enough intelligence to avoid rubble piles (on occasion),
and usually have to be destroyed with the sonic screwdriver.
Actually, there could be several Dalek models. But what would be the
differences between them?
- Davros
The prune-headed guy who started it all will appear on certain
levels. He will be able to turn rubbled Daleks into new Dalek models -
not pursuing the player but generally making the Doctor's life miserable.
- Tool Kit
Obviously, with intelligent enemies, more weaponry is needed.
Tool Kits will appear randomly on the board for the player to pick up.
Each Tool Kit could contain several screwdrivers.
- TARDIS Instruction Manual
When picked up, the Manual will provide a new mode of transport - the player
will be able to specify an exact destination when teleporting! This will be
limited to only one or two uses per Manual, after which the Time Lords will
swoop in and erase the Doctor's memory again. (This exciting and impressive
animation sequence will appear just off screen).
- Jelly Babies
Or the Blue Crystals of Metabelus (sp). Or something. Gives the
player bonus points and adds a bit of tension to levels. "Do I teleport
and get that crystal or just get the h*ck out of here??"
- Technical Improvements
It's probably time that Daleks! has animation. This would slow down
responsiveness slightly, but could make crystals glow, Daleks swing their
heads around, etc. As a result, loading time would be increased as
well. (NOTE: Java's upcoming JARs file-format and quickly increasing
modem/CPU speeds make this seem like less of a problem than it may
have been six months ago, but let me know your opinion!)
Those are the tentative plans. What do you think,
sirs? Send your comments.
